We’re not taking Friday’s off of homeschool this year and are instead using it as a flex day. If we are behind in work for the week due to appointments or the like, then we can make up the work on Friday. If we are in good shape for the week then I’ve been using the time to play educational games with the kids. Last week we played Bananagrams and even though the boys are still beginning spellers, they loved it. I helped them form the words and Addy handed them tiles when it was time to draw from the pile.
I started Henry on a spelling workbook this year and he’s done great, but I’ve been worried about him getting frustrated with a weekly spelling test. He’s always struggled with his handwriting (I’m not worried.) but I didn’t want that to hold him back. So I pulled out the Banagrams yesterday so that he could use the tiles to take a practice spelling test. They worked great! He was able to concentrate on spelling the word without the frustration of trying to form the letters and he even got 100%. Good job Henry!
